Shape.com recently posted an article containing the top 8 benefits of bone broth, and they are certainly worth taking a look at if you’re interested in trying a new product, but we’d like to take a closer look at some of the research to see exactly where these benefits lie!

Bone Broth Promotes Healthier Sleep

So, a study conducted back in 2012 looked at the effects of Glycine on daytime performance within a sample that was partially sleep-deprived, but on the whole, healthy individuals. Now, nowhere in this study do the words, “bone broth” appear. However, Glycine is a key, natural component commonly found within bone broth, ultimately letting us know that this miracle broth is a strong source of a common sleep aid with known and recognized health benefits.

Bone Broth Promotes Healthier Skin

Similarly, collagen has been seen all throughout the literature and mainstream publications which most often talk about its tremendous benefits for the skin. However, the empirical research is a bit divided on exactly how collagen relates to healthy skin. But we do know, however, that bone broth is an excellent source of collagen. So far, studies have shown that collagen helps to improve the skin’s elasticity, but more research needs to be conducted to really give us a better idea on how collagen promotes healthier skin.

However, with the information that we dohave about the benefits of adding collagen to your diet, bone broth is the perfect place to get it outside of powdered supplements!

Bone Broth

If you’re ready to try something new and give bone broth a shot, you certainly wouldn’t be alone! Bone broth can certainly be found premade in your local grocery store, or you can make it right from the comfort of your very own kitchen! Follow this simple recipe down below, and you’ll be on your way to receiving a whole new world of benefits!

Your Ingredients!

• 2 packages of chicken feet

• 1 bunch of parsley stems

• 1 yellow onion

• 3 cloves of garlic

• 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

• 2 tablespoons of salt

Now, the following should be placed in a cheese cloth or in a strainer:

○ 1 tbsp black peppercorns

○ 1 teaspoon of gum Arabic

○ 6 cloves of cardamom

○ 5 bay leaves

○ 1 teaspoon of clove

○ Several sprigs of thyme

○ 2 tablespoons of salt

○ 1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger

And here’s how you can make your very own bone broth at home!

1. Add the chicken feet into a large pressure cooker and cover with water until the feet

are submerged.

2. Bring to a boil before turning down to a low simmer.

3. Skim off any foam that forms at the top.

4. Cut the onions into quarters and cut the garlic in half.

5. Place the spices and herbs into a strainer or a cheese cloth. Then, add it to the water.

6. Close the pressure cooker and leave it on simmer for 48 hours.

7. During the last hour, simply grind the gum Arabic with a mallet and add it to the

broth. This is common in middle eastern cooking.

8. Strain and discard all solids. Remove the strainer/cheese cloth.

9. Once cooled, put the broth in mason jars and fasten tightly to ensure its preservation.

10. That’s it!
